Fundraising
is not the top priority of the Bonnie Brae PTO, but in order to offer a
wide array of children's programs and support our school, it is a
necessary and important part of our business. As the county's budget
grows tighter, our contributions become even more important. The Bonnie
Brae community has always been very generous in its financial support
of our school, and we thank you in advance for supporting our
fundraisers.
We are redoubling our efforts to tap into the generosity of the business community, seeking grants and donations to defray our costs of running our programs. If you know of a business willing to support the PTO--either through a cash or product donation--please let us know!
Where Does the Money Go? Children also reap the benefits of our school enrichment funds. For the past several years, school enrichment is spent via a teacher wish list, in which teachers request items for their classrooms outside the normal school budget. In past years, items purchased have included white boards, dramatic play props, owl pellets for dissection, software, books and more. Something was purchased for every grade level, as well as for the many of the specialists. The PTO also makes a generous and much needed contribution towards school technology. As the budget shows, the administrative costs of the PTO are very low-less than 5 percent of the overall budget. Fundraising Programs Wrapping Paper Sales - We have held the wrapping paper fundraiser for
numerous year and it contributes to a significant portion of our
operating budget. This year, we have contracted with Lavenders.
Proceeds from this sale help to jump start our programs for the school
year.
Read-A-Thon - R.E.A.C.H. (Reading Education Awareness in the Child's Home)
is a fundraiser that challenges students to read 300 minutes at home and
in school during the designated REACH week. Children are asked to send
out sponsor and sponsors pledge money for each minute read (sponsors
also have the option to pledge a specific amount of money rather than
per minute). Last year was the first year that Bonnie Brae participated
in this fundraiser and it was HUGELY SUCCESSFUL! We raised
approximately $19,000.
Box Tops/Tysons Chicken
- Over the past several years, our Box Tops programs has grown by leaps
and bounds. Last year, students sent in more than 18,000 Box Tops!
That converts to over $1,800, which goes directly to the school. This
year, we are hoping to collect even more. Box Tops are collected by
classroom and classrooms receive rewards for reaching set levels. At
the end of the year, the top three classrooms bringing in the most Box
Tops receive a Pizza Party! So start sending in those Box Tops. New this year, we will also be participating in the Tyson Project A+ Program.
Like the General Mills Box Tops program, Tyson rewards schools for
collecting box and bag labels from their chicken products. Look for
more information in Tuesday packets and newsletters - and start saving those labels. Dining Out Nights (various
times throughout the year) - Several times a year, we hold Dining Out
Nights. The PTO arranges with various restaurants (such as Silver
Diner, Hard Times) to hold a fundraiser at their location. Families
dine out at the restaurant and the PTO receives a percentage of sales
from BBES families for that night. So plan to eat out and support our
school at the same time. |
